Seam Sealing and Waterproof Membranes in Ski Wear

Waterproof ski wear depends on the relationship between fabric, membrane, sewing and seam sealing. A waterproof fabric alone does not guarantee a waterproof finished jacket.

Understand the construction
Seam tape must match the fabric system and be applied with suitable temperature, pressure and speed. Critical seams around shoulders, hood, pockets and zippers deserve particular attention.
Ask for process evidence
Discuss available seam-sealing methods, sample inspection, wash or water-resistance testing and production checkpoints. The supplier should explain which seams are fully taped, critically taped or intentionally left unsealed.
Balance performance and cost
Higher waterproof performance can add material, machine and labor requirements. Define the end use first so the factory can recommend a suitable construction rather than an unnecessarily expensive specification.
